Authorities in Spokane, Washington, are investigating a disturbing traffic incident that has raised renewed concerns about pedestrian safety after a 56-year-old woman was arrested following an alleged near-collision involving a child on a bicycle.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in a residential area where children are frequently seen riding bikes and playing outdoors. Officials say the driver allegedly veered her vehicle onto the sidewalk, narrowly missing a child who was riding nearby. Fortunately, no physical injuries have been reported, but the situation has been described as “extremely dangerous” by responding officers.
Witnesses in the area stated that the child was riding along the sidewalk when the vehicle suddenly approached at an unsafe angle. Several nearby residents reportedly reacted quickly, shouting to alert the child and attempting to draw attention to the approaching car. The child was able to move out of the way in time, avoiding what authorities say could have been a serious or even fatal accident.
Police arrived shortly after receiving emergency calls from concerned residents. Officers secured the scene and began interviewing witnesses to piece together the sequence of events.
