“I’ve been lying to you your whole life.”

The words didn’t make sense. Not Ray. Not the man who had been everything to me—father, protector, my entire world. My hands trembled as I forced myself to keep reading.

“Hannah… the night of the crash wasn’t what you think it was.”

I froze. My heart started pounding so hard it felt like it might burst out of my chest.

“You were told it was an accident. That a drunk driver hit your parents’ car. That you were the only survivor, left unable to walk because of your injuries. But that’s not the truth.”

My vision blurred. I blinked hard, trying to steady myself.

“If I could take this secret to my grave, I would. But you deserve the truth, even if it breaks you.”

I felt cold all over.

“The crash… it wasn’t just an accident. I was there that night.”

I gasped.

The room suddenly felt too small, too quiet. My uncle… there?

“I was driving behind your parents. We had argued earlier that evening. A stupid, heated argument that should have meant nothing… but it changed everything.”

Tears welled in my eyes as I read on.
