Mold growth does not mean the rest of the cheese is spoiled, especially with hard cheeses like cheddar.


3. How to Safely Remove Mold from Hard Cheese

If you spot mold on cheddar, you donโ€™t have to throw the whole block away. Hard cheeses allow you to salvage most of it safely:

  1. Cut generously around the mold: Remove at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) around and below the mold spot.

  2. Keep the knife clean: Mold spores can transfer, so use a clean knife and avoid touching other parts of the cheese with the moldy section.

  3. Wrap it properly afterward: Use fresh parchment paper or wax paper and store in the fridge to prevent further mold.
