For decades, Americans have enjoyed relatively easy access to many countries thanks to a powerful passport and various visa programs. In fact, U.S. citizens can still travel visa-free or obtain visas on arrival in about 170+ countries.
However, recent immigration reforms, housing crises, and political tensions have led some governments to tighten rules for foreigners—including Americans—who want to live or work abroad long-term.
