I turned to my mom and smiled. “Ready?” I asked.
She nodded, still emotional, but stronger now.
We walked toward the entrance together.
And as we did, I realized something important.
This night wasn’t about fitting in.
It wasn’t about what people thought, or what was “normal,” or what looked right to others.
It was about honoring the person who gave up everything so I could have a future.
It was about giving her a moment she never had.
And no one—no comment, no laugh, no judgment—could take that away.
That night, I didn’t just go to prom.
I shared it with the person who deserved it most.
And I would do it all over again without hesitation.
