Margaret’s hands started shaking.
She flipped through more pages, heart racing, until she found an adoption record. A missing child report. And a trail that had been sealed away for decades.

The realization hit like ice.

By the time Claire returned, Margaret was already in tears. Daniel walked back into the room seconds later, noticing immediately that something was wrong.
“What happened?” he asked.
No one spoke at first.
