Not because I didn’t trust him.
But because I needed to be sure I could still stand on my own before explaining what I had been given.
He didn’t interrupt.
He just listened.
And for the first time since the wedding, the distance between us didn’t feel permanent.
It felt repairable.
Later that evening, after everyone had left and the house was quiet again, I stood by the window and looked out at the street.
Nothing looked different.

Not defeat.

It was simpler than that.
People will always show you who they are over time.
But only if you stay still long enough to see it clearly.
