Looking back, I often think about how close I came to reacting only out of fear and assumptions. If I had confronted her angrily or jumped to conclusions, I might have missed the truth completely.
Instead, I learned something important about parenting teenagers: sometimes what looks like secrecy is actually struggle. And sometimes what looks like deception is really just a child trying their best in silence.
Emily wasn’t skipping school.
She was trying not to fail.
And once I understood that, everything between us changed for the better.
