While enjoying a beach vacation with my family, I decided to check our home security cameras. To my shock, I saw our neighbor dragging our expensive gas grill from our backyard into his yard, where he was hosting a huge party.
At first, I honestly thought there had to be some explanation. Maybe there was an emergency. Maybe he planned to borrow it for a few minutes and return it later. But then I watched him proudly showing it off to his guests like it belonged to him.
I immediately tried calling him.
No answer.
I texted him.
Still nothing.
That’s when frustration started turning into anger. We had spent months saving up for that grill. It wasn’t some cheap portable barbecue either — it was a premium stainless steel model we used constantly during family gatherings. And there he was, using it without permission while we were hundreds of miles away.
But then something happened that changed everything.
As I kept watching the camera feed, I noticed he was struggling to light the grill. He lifted the lid several times, pressed buttons, adjusted knobs, and even hit the side of it in frustration while his guests awkwardly waited nearby holding plates of uncooked burgers and hot dogs.
Then I suddenly remembered something important.
Before leaving for vacation, I had removed the propane tank.
Not completely — but enough to disconnect the gas flow because I always do that before long trips for safety reasons.
And apparently… he never checked.
A few seconds later, my neighbor pressed the ignition button again and again. Nothing happened. One of his guests tried helping him while another laughed. You could tell he was becoming embarrassed in front of everyone.
But karma wasn’t finished yet.
After several failed attempts, he apparently decided to “fix” the problem himself. He disappeared for a minute and came back carrying a small propane tank from somewhere else. Watching through the camera, I could already tell he had absolutely no idea what he was doing.
He connected it incorrectly.
The moment he tried lighting the grill again, there was a loud WHOOSH sound followed by a burst of smoke that sent him stumbling backward so fast he nearly fell into a lawn chair. His guests screamed and jumped away while someone dropped an entire tray of food onto the grass.
Thankfully, nobody was seriously hurt.
