My puppy just got bit by this snake. I think it’s coral. He’s breathing heavy. On the way to hospital. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you

If possible, have them call the emergency veterinary clinic ahead so they know:

  • A possible coral snake bite is coming in

  • Your puppy is breathing heavily

This allows them to prepare oxygen and antivenom immediately.

🐍 If You Remember the Snake

Don’t go back to look for it, but if you recall details, tell the vet:

Typical coral snake pattern in many regions:

  • Red, yellow, and black bands

  • In North America: “Red on yellow, kill a fellow” pattern

Even if you’re not sure, the vet can treat based on symptoms.

🏥 What the Vet Will Likely Do

Veterinary teams may provide:

  • Antivenom

  • Oxygen support

  • IV fluids

  • Monitoring of breathing and heart rate

  • Possible ventilator support if breathing becomes weak

Many dogs recover well with fast treatment, especially when owners get them to a vet quickly like you are doing.

You are doing the right thing by going immediately. That gives your puppy the best chance.

If you want, when you can safely reply, you can tell me:

  • What country/state you’re in

  • The colors of the snake

  • Where the bite is on your puppy
